One of the advantages of being an EVS volunteer is that we have the right and duty to take part in a professional On/Arrival training. Twelve volunteers, us included, from all over Croatia were participating in it. The training took place in the ‘’Merkur’’ resort in Orahovica.
To be on time (the training lasted from 04-09.09.2017) we had to leave Brtonigla in the evening and arrived (after 12 hours by bus) at seven o’ clock in the morning. While our sessions, led by two professionals, we had the chance to learn more about our rights, responsibilities, and opportunities in EVS. Since one of those responsibilities during the EVS is to do a project we were introduced to project management and in addition to this, we were obligated to implement the knowledge we got to complete a small project. Another aim of the training was to acquaint us with Croatian culture, therefore on our last evening, we had a traditional Croatian dinner. Typical Croatian food was served, like kulen, sarma, lamb and strudla.
From our point of view, the training was a great opportunity to exchange our ideas and experience with other volunteers. It was also challenging to work with people we just met. The trainers gave us useful advice that we can use while we are participating in the EVS program. We really enjoyed the days spent in Orahovica and are looking forward to the next challenges.
On the Youtube of LDA you can also find a video from volunteers, as a task one of the projects.
