Project Medialogue – 1st meeting in SMSI Leonardo da Vinci in Buje

On the 18th of January 2017 the representatives and volunteers of the LDA attended the first official conference of the Medialogue project that was held in the Italian high school in Buje. Core objective of the project is to examine the media coverage of the facts that occurred in the beginning of the 1990s, such as the dissolution of the USSR and Yugoslavia. Štefan Čok, historian and manager of the project, chaired the meeting where he presented a gradual historical outlook of the region of former Yugoslavia from the ancient times to the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He explained how the statehood in the area was created, how wars and religion influenced the process and how and why the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia collapsed. The meeting encountered the student’s inquiring enthusiasm as they showed eagerness to explore the matter even deeper by questioning the processes that lead to the break up of the major US ally behind the Iron curtain. This event will be followed by further one, where the focus will be narrowed down to the media coverage of the break-down of Yugoslavia and related impact on public opinion.
